Elizabeth Storer, President & CEO to Retire December 2027

The George B. Storer Foundation announced today that its longtime President and Chief Executive Officer, Elizabeth Storer, will retire from her role at the end of 2027, concluding two decades of impactful leadership.

During Liz’s tenure, the Foundation has played an instrumental role in advancing science-based conservation strategies in Wyoming and the Greater Yellowstone region through conservation of wildlife migration corridors and protecting the habitat of greater sage-grouse, contributing to collaborative, landscape-scale solutions. The Foundation has also become a national leader in facilitating outdoor learning in early childhood education, expanding nature-based programming and access for young learners across the country.

Liz has guided the Foundation’s extensive work in civic engagement, conservation of public lands, climate change mitigation, and protecting democracy by supporting organizations working to strengthen participation, protect public institutions, and advance durable policy solutions. She has been a leading voice in Wyoming for policy-focused philanthropy, helping to standardize advocacy funding in a state where few funders have been willing to participate. The Foundation has also prioritized support for independent, nonprofit journalism—investing in outlets such as WyoFile and Inside Climate News—at a time when for-profit local media has been in decline, helping ensure that communities have access to trusted, in-depth reporting.

“It has been a privilege to help steward the Foundation’s growth and to support partners working on some of the most pressing challenges of our time,” said Storer. “Looking ahead, I am confident the Foundation is well positioned to deepen its impact—advancing conservation, expanding opportunity through outdoor learning, and strengthening civic life in Wyoming and beyond.”

Liz will continue to serve as President and CEO through the end of 2027, working closely with the Board of Directors to ensure a smooth and deliberate transition. The Board will initiate a search for her successor in the coming year.
